New to Alli - do you agree with my 'theory'?

Hi

I'm thinking of taking alli at my main meal of the day and maybe lunch and saving one of the pills each day to make the bottle last longer, resulting in those 'saved pills' being used on higher fat main meals in future. My theory is 50% fat loss on a main meal is a lot better than 50% fat loss on a small meal with little fat.

This must make more sense; lowering the side effects, saving money and making them last longer ? However understand that the weight loss will be a little slower.. ?

Does anyone else disagree or agree with my idea ? Is anyone doing this already and are you still losing or not losing weight ?

If you have a very low fat breakfast, it would be worthwhile saving the tablet as you suggest to have with a higher fat percentage meal and thereby save cost. Suggestions would be toast with no fat spread, but perhaps marmalade, marmite or jam on it, or low fat cereal with skimmed milk. Remember that if you have a verg high fat percentage meal, you may get side effects though.

iv been leaving out tab for breakfast and just taking lunch and dinner but have no side effects and because of this now sceptical where any excess fat is going

sceptical alli

im really sceptical now, have been taking alli for one week, well 6 days as had a break on fri night as we went to dinner and didnt want to risk side effect. but i have had no side effects at all, and have now had things like milk and o ther processed food and nothing has happened.. no weight loss either. why do we think this is

Milk's really not that high in fat. I think most dairy products get a bad rap, with the exception of cheese and butter. Even then a small amount of high fat food is not going to give you any side effects. For orlistat to be effective you really need to be eating a modest amount of fat with every meal. I don't bother taking a tablet if my meal has less than 6g of fat.

theory

This is something i have been wondering about too. But i have been debating something sort of similar. If you have a low fat meal very low - and take alli wont it also help elimiate your fat storage basically my own fat. this is really what i want to lose. i normally eat pretty low fat - like i have been tracking for two weeks and never has my daily intake been over 19 - which is the amount i am allowed per meal. I think its great when i do eat fat it evacuates quickly but i am hoping by eating lower fat you are attacking your fat storage by taking alli too. i think from what i have read that bodies need some fat to exist for energy etc. when your body doesent eat enough of it - it works off your stored fat. by taking alli even on low fat meals lets say 2 gram meals - then half gets flushed but your body uses more of its stored fat. What is the thought on this?

Fat stored on your body and fat contained in the food you eat are different. Orlistat has no effect on your stored fat other than when you are in calorie deficit. Stored fat is as a result of having excess calories over and above those you expend in normal everyday life and exercise. These calories do not just come from fats however. If it were then it would be easy to lose weight by a low fat diet alone and we could eat all the simple carbs we wanted and still lose weight. In actual fact carbs are more easily converted to available energy than either fats or proteins, this is why in order to feel full we need good fats in our diets. The body uses the most easily available energy first, that contained in the food most recently eaten and will only resort to using the stored energy (in fat cells) when it has depleated the energy from the food recently eaten. Your body sends hunger signals to your brain when the energy in the stomach is depleated in an attempt to get another easily convertible enery supply rather than having to go through the complex process of using the stored energy in fat cells.

So simply put, all Orlistat is doing is making it a little easier for us to create a calorie deficit by eliminating a proportion of the fat we eat so the body can't use it as a readily available source of energy and to force it to use the calories we have stored in our fat cells sooner. Eliminating fat (rather than carbs or protein) makes sense to me as fat is much more calorie dense than either carbs or protein (more than twice as much for the same weight).

I hope this explanation makes some sense. This brings me back to the statement in my previous post; that I think Orlistat will work best with a diet that contains a moderate amount of fat, just not too much to cause treatment effects!

Good information - in tons of the literature on alli they claim that it helps you get to your fat stores too. after i posted this i did a search on "fat stores" and alli. there literature seems to promote that it helps to attach fat stores


3. if alli capsules only work on the fat in my food, how do I lose the fat in my body?
As you consume fewer calories on a reduced-calorie, low-fat diet — and use alli to block absorption of some of the fat you eat — your body will automatically tap into its fat stores and use them for the energy it needs. That can result in weight loss.
