How did Alli get its name? Do you know who came up with the name? Do you think it is a good name?

I don't know specifically about alli, but I know that there is a lot of thought that goes into names of anything that is going to be marketed internationally. Of course, they can use a different brand name in another country, but it is cheaper to minimize that. Names are researched to see if they have been trademarked anywhere else, if they have meanings in other languages, if they are the same or sound similar to obscene or offensive words in other languages and cultures, or if they convey a mood or feeling that is incompatible or might inhibit sales.

I used to work for a large consumer products company!

Wow, I never knew so much time and effort went into choosing a name. I guess it makes sense, because it is a major factor that people use to judge anything.

Of course, I don't know how Shakespeare's Juliet would feel about there being so much in a name.

I'm sure, being the aristocrat she was, she'd be into Prada and Jimmy Choos.

They really go through all that? Amazing. I do know that if a product has a person's name on it, companies always find someone with that name and pay them to use it.
