Walking doesn't seem like a good idea?
I usually get exercise by walking, but now that I'm going to take Xenical, it doesn't seem like such a good idea? Why? Well, walking tends to stimulate my bowels and it also tends to take me away from home, which is where I'll want to be.
So what can I substitute?

What about just walking around your house? Dull, but you will be near the essential facilities. If you have stairs, you can climb up and down them twenty times.
You could try home exercise videos, although that might be a little bit too bouncy at first.

You could buy a treadmill, and walk at home. I know some people who can read on a treadmill, but I don't like it because it makes me dizzy. I do like to watch TV when on a treadmill, if one is available.

I just hate to spend the money on a treadmill. I'm going to try exercise videos first, I think.

Well, that's true. Exercise videos will cost a lot less. I think you can rent them from the video store, if you don't want to buy them. I know Netflix and Blockbuster both have a lot of exercise videos in the speciality section.

Since I read this post, I've been thinking, and I've scrapped my plans to join a gym. I think I'm going to buy a treadmill and watch movies, and get some of those two-pound weights (or a couple of cans of peas) and do a little strength training. I might try a video or two.

Giving up on the gym sounds smart to me. You'll save money, and you'll avoid potentially being terribly embarrassed. Maybe later, when you know how you react, you could join.

The problem with giving up the gym is this: Most gyms won't allow you to quit right off. They keep most people on contracts, and will take the monthly fees out of your bank even if you do not go to the gym
