What is Alli?

In what for many was a surprise, but welcome relief, the US Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) have formally endorsed the first weight loss drug to be available over the counter without prescription, named “alli”.  The release of this anti-obesity wonder drug – the Alli Diet Pill – may well have come at the right time with recent reports showing a growing problem in both the European and US markets (with Europe particularly disappointing of late).

While the US has been troubled by obesity for some time, with some 65 percent of adults overweight or obese, the problem is starting to take hold in Europe.  While weight loss pills have attracted some negative comment in the past, the fact the FDA have approved the product offers a great deal of support to many.

The Alli diet pill itself is a reduced strength version of the prescription weight loss drug Xenical (also known as Orlistat) which has an impressive safety record, and encouraging clinical trial results.  In the original trials of Xenical it was shown that when used in conjunction with a traditional weight loss program , the treatment resulted in an average loss of 12.4 pounds over 6 months (the placebo patients only losing half that amount).

What are Alli Diet Pills

Even though many potential customers may see the alli pill as a quick path to weight loss , it works better along side traditional weight loss programs such as light exercise, and careful dieting.  There can be some slightly uncomfortable side effects if the customer continues with a high fat diet while using alli, with increased flatulence and rectal discharge (very soft stools) as the drug acts to reduce the amount of fat absorbed by the body.

While Xenical was originally formulated by Roche, worldwide pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithkline acquired the US rights some 12 months ago, and are behind the release of “alli”.  They have a massive marketing machine behind them, and alli is expected to become one of the latest wonder drugs in the US market.  As the market for weight control and weight loss products continues to grow, the fact that customers will not need to arrange a potentially embarrassing visit to the Doctor prior to receiving the drug may prove a big attraction for many.

While it is still early days for alli, the signs are encouraging and it has prompted a lot of comment on and off the internet.  Obesity and overweight problems are for many a personal issue, and the fact that you can buy alli pills over the counter is a great attraction.

If i were you i would read about the side effects before asking such a question….who wants to end up with flatulence.
This form of diet pill requires strict will power and determination the side effects if you do not adhere to this regime is very uncomfortable and embarrassing….

I have used Xenical which was given by prescription only and I have used Alli. Both will cause a…discharge is you have fat in your diet. Pizza and Chinese food are impossible. If you want to lose weight on Alli you will need to follow a LOW fat diet or suffer the consequences and OH BOY you don’t want that!

Everyone worried about the side effects: Surely if you were determined enough to lose the extra pounds, things like discharge wouldn’t be a worry? I know exactly what it’s like to have extra pounds and how hard it is to motivate yourself to losing them, but surely a short term problem like discharge (Which I don’t personally think is too embarrassing, as long as you deal with it properly) is worth the long term effect of weight loss?

I took alli for 6mths after having my 3rd child, I ate basicly what i wanted and lost 32 pds, yes their was some oily spotting but that was just proving that they do what they are intended to do, they didn’t make me shaky or my heart beat out of my chest they done a really good job and I was happy with them. Love these and they truly do help they do more than what most prescriptions drugs do at a affordable price. I wore a 13-14 in jeans now im at a 6-7 depending on the brand im truly happy with the drug..

Hello,
I have used Alli and Xenical both. Alli is Xenical and they are the same pill but it is Xenical made legal to buy without a perscription and called Alli now and it is bought over the counter. They do give a discharge of oil but ony if you over indulge in greasy deep fried food. Other wise there is no worry of oil leakage. It keeps me from cheating and eating greasy french fries and burgers. It only gives you gas if you over indulge in the greasy foods also. So just stay away from the greasy foods and deep fried foods and you will be ok. I have taken 2 alli pills and I have taken 1 alli pill and I cant tell the difference as far as weight loss except it may give you some gas if you take 2 and some tummy cramps or bloating till the 2 pills get through your system. My doctor says only 1 pill is neccessary. Hope this helps a bunch of you out there wondering about the Alli and Xenical pills. Remember stay away from the greasy foods and deep fried foods and you will be ok and will not have any leakage and very little to no gas. Andrea
